About the project

The client is a rapidly growing chain of Japanese restaurants. They specialize in healthy and delicious food prepared exclusively from fresh ingredients. At the client’s restaurants, visitors can treat themselves with rolls and sushi, sushi sets, soups, salads, and drinks. As the restaurants were gaining popularity, the client decided to handle the demand by creating a mobile app.

Challenge

Though the client already had a website allowing their customers to make orders online, it wasn’t compatible with all mobile devices, the descriptions of dishes were vague, and users couldn’t track the order status. Besides, according to user research, the lion’s share of sushi delivery customers are millennials and Gen Zs. Since the given demographics expect all services to be available at their fingertips, the necessity of building a mobile application became apparent.

Solution

Following the client’s request, we developed an iOS-based food delivery app with a standard layout and functionality that allows users to view the menu, make orders in several taps, and stay updated with special offers and discounts through push messages and notifications. Here’s what a standard user flow of the app looks like:

  • Home Screen: users launch the app and see the Home screen, where they can access their personal profile, most popular dishes, the main categories, and the shopping cart.
  • Sushi details: to get more information on the specific sushi type, users can tap it and see its ingredients, weight, and other details. Users can also bookmark the dish or add it to the cart.
  • Cart: users can view, add, and delete the contents of the cart. They can see delivery details, the total amount, and information on promo-codes and special offers.
  • Order: once users fill out the delivery details, they are directed to the Order page where they choose a payment method and pay for the order.
  • Delivery: users can see their delivery status in real-time and track the current whereabouts of the courier. It is also possible to get in touch with the courier directly from the app.

Results

Thanks to the application, the client’s chain of restaurants continues to gain popularity and outpaces the competition, while being able to cope with the growing demand. Since their favorite dishes are just a few taps away, users order more, and the restaurant’s average check size has increased. Additionally, thanks to the regular push messages about special discounts and offers, there was a significant boost in customer awareness and engagement.
